Ghost hosting
Managed Ghost hosting, built for speed.
Ghost needs a supported Node.js and database environment, with its service and email configuration included in the deployment plan.
We check the application and its required services before agreeing a migration. The plan tables show the hosting resources; extra software licences and external services should be scoped separately.
Managed Ghost VPS
Ghost hosting on a managed VPS.
Ghost runs best in its own environment, so we provision and manage the runtime for you on a VPS sized to your traffic. Managed includes setup, patching, monitoring and Premier support, with backups quoted alongside the server. Free migration either way.

What every plan includes
Everything your Ghost site needs.
Fully managed VPS
A dedicated VPS provisioned and maintained by our UK team, with the Node.js runtime, MySQL 8 and reverse proxy configured for Ghost.
Correct Node.js runtime
Ghost runs on a supported Node.js LTS release with a process manager and MySQL 8, kept patched and tuned so your site stays fast and stable.
Free Ghost migrations
Our 24x7 UK team migrates your existing Ghost site, database and content for free, testing everything for a move with no downtime.
Daily off-site backups
Automated daily off-site backups of your Ghost files and MySQL database mean your content and members are always safe and recoverable.
24x7 UK-based support
A UK support team with 20+ years of experience, on hand day and night via live chat and helpdesk to resolve any Ghost or server issue.
EPYC, NVMe & DDoS protection
AMD EPYC processors, 100% NVMe SSD storage and datacentre DDoS protection deliver rapid load times inside a hardened, isolated VPS.
Deploying Ghost
Use the Node.js and MySQL versions required by the installed Ghost release. Confirm the process manager, proxy, HTTPS and transactional or newsletter email services.
Moving your Ghost site
Transfer the database, images and theme, then test administrator access, membership journeys and outbound email. Check any third-party email costs separately from hosting.
Agree a final data sync and the DNS change after staging checks pass. Keep the old service available through the transition and check backups on the destination.
Ghost(Pro), DigitalOcean or a managed UK VPS
There are three usual ways to host a Ghost blog. Ghost(Pro) is the official managed hosting from the Ghost Foundation, priced by members and staff users. Self-hosting on a DigitalOcean droplet is cheap, and you run the server yourself. A managed VPS sits between the two: a server that's yours, with someone else doing the Ubuntu patching, the Node.js upgrades and the 3am restarts.
That's what this is. Each Ghost site gets its own VPS in one of our three Tier 3 UK data centres, on AMD EPYC and NVMe, with guaranteed cores and RAM. Your subscriber data stays in the UK, which matters if your newsletter has EU or UK readers and you'd rather not explain a US data transfer.
Ghost(Pro) is a fine product and if you never want to think about a server, use it. Where a managed VPS wins is cost at scale. Ghost(Pro) prices climb with member count. A VPS costs the same whether you have 500 subscribers or 50,000.
Install Ghost, or let us do it
Ghost installs with ghost-cli on Ubuntu, and needs a supported Node.js LTS release, MySQL 8, Nginx as the reverse proxy and a systemd service to keep it running. It takes about an hour if you've done it before and an afternoon if you haven't, most of it spent on the MySQL user and the SSL certificate.
On a managed plan we do the install, point your domain at it and hand you the admin login. Newsletter delivery needs a transactional email provider such as Mailgun, which Ghost expects for bulk sending. We'll configure it; the provider's own charges are separate from hosting.
Already self-hosting? Moving a Ghost site is a content export, the images folder and your theme. We rebuild it on the new VPS, you check the members and the paid subscriptions still work, then we switch DNS. Free, and done by our UK team.
Node.js LTS and MySQL 8
The versions Ghost currently supports, kept updated so the next Ghost release installs cleanly.
Newsletters and memberships
Mailgun or another SMTP provider wired in for bulk sends. Stripe connects from the Ghost admin as normal.
Custom themes
Upload any Handlebars theme through the admin. We don't restrict theme or code injection.
Daily off-site backups
Files and the MySQL database, restorable on request, so a bad theme update isn't a lost archive.
Ghost against WordPress and Substack
Ghost is open source and built for publishing: posts, newsletters, memberships and paid subscriptions are in the core, with SEO handled without plugins. WordPress can do all of that with the right plugins and a fair bit of upkeep. Substack does it with no server at all, and takes 10 percent of paid subscriptions for the privilege.
If you're moving a newsletter off Substack, Ghost imports the subscriber list and posts, and you keep 100 percent of what your members pay, less Stripe's fee. The VPS is the fixed cost. Most writers we host land on the entry or growth VPS and only move up when the archive gets large.
Check the official Ghost requirements for your release, then plan the migration with us. See our hosting platform for the infrastructure behind the plans.
